To Whom It May Concern
On the 1st July 2008, Jaimie Shorten and Carly Church will spend one month volunteering on the International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ) orphanage program in Kenya. IVHQ is a New Zealand based NGO that provides safe, affordable volunteering opportunities abroad. Due to the high incidences of poverty and illness orphanages in Kenya can host 50-300 children at any one time and there is always a high demand for more volunteer assistance. Volunteers who work in an orphanage help with general work and daily chores. This work ranges from cooking and cleaning to farm work, assisting with feeding programs, caring for children and babies and teaching. In order to participate on this program, Jaimie and Carly have to pay fees of US$670, which will cover their accommodation, meals, orientation, program placement, volunteer support services, placement supervision and administration costs of the program. Furthermore, Jaimie and Carly will have extra costs such airfares to Kenya, in country travel and vaccinations. Finally, many volunteers also find their impact is even more profound if they take some fundraised/donated money to invest in projects being undertaken by the local NGOs and communities with whom they are working. I have no doubt that from Jaimie’s and Carly’s qualifications and skills they will make excellent volunteers. Any assistance that you can provide them with will be really appreciated. If you wish to discuss this matter further or have any questions I am more than happy to help.
